The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund II (HEERF II) is authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA), Public Law 116-260, signed into law on Dec. 27, 2020, providing support to institutions of higher education to serve students and ensure learning continues during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We believe a majority of our students have experienced some underlying expenses related to changes in campus operations and financial situations due to the coronavirus (COVID-19). It is the intent of the School of Automotive Machinists & Technology (SAM Tech) to allow each affected student the opportunity to apply for HEERF II funds. These grants will provide financial support to students impacted by COVID-19.
Stage 1 of the HEERF II Grant will be award to students with exceptional need. SAM Tech will use the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) EFC to determine which students will receive first stage awards. Students can use this grant for any component of their cost of attendance or emergency costs that arise due to COVID-19, such as tuition, food, housing, course materials, technology, healthcare, childcare, etc.
SAM Tech understands that all students may have experienced disruption in their lives due to COVID-19, however we want to ensure that students with the most need are prioritized for these funds. For this reason, students who received 2020/2021 Pell and did not receive HEERF I funds are automatically awarded HEERF II grants.
- Students must have completed 20/21 FAFSA
- Students must have completed verification
- Students must have received 20/21 Pell
- Students who received HEERF I are not eligible for Stage 1 awards
Students who meet the above criteria will automatically be issued a $500 check. Students will be called to pick up their checks. If a student cannot pick up their check, they will need to provide a correct mailing address for the check to be mailed.
Stage 2 of the HEERF II Grant will open and awarded to all students who demonstrate exceptional need by submitting a HEERF II Application. Students can use this grant for any component of their cost of attendance or emergency expenses due to COVID-19, such as tuition, food, housing, course materials, technology, healthcare, childcare, etc.
Students who were awarded HEERF funds in Stage 1 are also eligible to apply for HEERF funds in Stage 2. Every student is encouraged to apply.
- Students must have been enrolled at SAM Tech as of January 1, 2021
- Students must complete a HEERF Certification Form
Students with questions or concerns regarding the HEERF II Grant may contact Susie Faerman in the Financial Aid Office at 713-683-3817 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
SAM Tech feels that this is the best way to distribute HEERF II funds and assure that those in need get assistance.
